How can construction photography benefit my project or business?

In the competitive world of construction and development, every project demands an edge to stand out, not only during the build but also in the post-construction phase. It’s no secret that the visual narrative plays a pivotal role in showcasing the prowess and success of a project. Enter construction photography, a remarkable facet that, when harnessed adeptly, can fundamentally transform the way your project or business is perceived.

Documenting Progress and Milestones: One of the undeniable benefits of construction photography is its ability to chronicle the entire journey of a construction project. From the initial excavation to the final coat of paint, these visual records provide a comprehensive, step-by-step account of your project’s development. They serve as an invaluable tool for monitoring and assessing progress, making it easier to address issues promptly and meet project milestones.

Civil Engineering Photography: the joys and challenges.

We understand the intricacies and the complexities of such projects and have a keen eye for showcasing the architectural brilliance they encompass. These projects are often quite challenging to photograph for several reasons. The majority of the projects we cover are in London. We often travel with a lot of equipment and parking on site is usually not an option. So it’s a case of finding a car park that’s not too far away or taking the tube.

To keep costs down we prefer our clients to give us reasonable notice to allow us to find accommodation at a reasonable cost. Of course we understand this isn’t always possible. At short notice it’s not always possible to find suitable accommodation in London close to the project so we rely on outer London and getting the tube.

Many of the Civil Engineering projects we cover are for large complexes with 5 + apartment blocks and Cinema and Shopping complexes etc. because of the scale of the project there are many different contractors and subcontractors on site working in very limited spaces, often with not much light- depending on the stage of the build.

For this reason I would suggest for you as a client that you work with a “seasoned pro” so to speak, who is very familiar with working in that environment and is aware of the “confined working environment’ and ‘time limitations of staff available’ to accompany the photographer if required.

I have my own CSCS Card, PPE etc but I’m often still accompanied even after induction as my clients often want something specific covering. At other times Im left after a briefing session to seek out what is needed. Sometimes the only way to get the right shot is from the roof or mast crawlers, fortunately I dont have an issue with heights, yet that has only come with years of experience.

The type of work we cover: Commercial Spaces.

The commercial realm is another area of our specialisation. We have travelled the length and breadth of the UK covering projects for our clients. Our portfolio includes the documentation of large warehouses and distribution centres, which form the backbone of countless industries. We capture their vastness, functionality, the form of their steel structures which often looks beautiful to the eye, especially when seen from above or, if the steel is covered with white intumescent paint against a blue sky prior to cladding. Our clients are looking for images that offer clarity and the ability to zoom in on screen to check for the smallest details. Some of the large warehouses are vast and take over an hour just to walk around the perimeter!.

There are many reasons why clients hire us to create images for them. The most common requests are “for social media use and our websites”, which of course is true. However, the ‘bigger picture’ behind it is the following.

Attracting Clients and Investors:

Client Attraction: Striking visual content has the power to draw clients to your doorstep. The first impression often determines whether a potential client engages with your services, and captivating architectural photography is your foot in the door.

Investor Confidence

For investors, the ability to visualise the impact and potential returns of their investment is crucial. High-quality imagery provides them with a clear understanding of your projects, fostering their trust and support.

Inspiration and Collaboration

Inspiring Creativity: Architectural photography serves as a source of inspiration, not just for your team but for the broader construction community. It can influence and inspire the next generation of architects, designers, and builders.

Collaboration Catalyst: Clear and compelling photographs can assist collaboration with architects, designers, and other professionals. They provide a shared visual language that enhances communication and fosters innovation.

Do you have experience working on construction sites safely and efficiently?

Yes we do. We have our own CSCS cards, full PPE and provide RAMS. As can be seen from the example photographs we are showing we have experience of working on many different construction projects, large and small, day and night and in all weather conditions. No photograph is worth compromising safety for.

What equipment do you use for construction photography?

We rarely get asked this question but have been asked on occasion. The brand we use ( Canon) is irrelevant, suffice to say it is able to work in all weathers, take the knocks and provide images of outstanding quality. The camera and equipment doesn’t do it all by itself of course… that’s where we come in! we have professional lighting too that will work in all conditions.

How do you ensure the best lighting and angles for construction photography?

That’s the Magic Sauce! But basically it comes down to years of experience on the job and a passion to always do better. Self improvement and development never stops. This is why we are confident we can operate in any construction or commercial environment and deliver what is required for our clients. It is not immodesty, just self confidence in what we do.

Do you offer aerial photography or drone services for construction sites?

Yes we do and you can see examples of our work on this page.

What is the typical turnaround time for receiving the final images?

Usually within 2-3 days unless we are travelling from your project directly to another clients. We will send the high resolution images to you via WeTransfer.

Are you insured and licensed to work as a construction photographer?

Yes we are, we have full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance.

Can you accommodate my project’s specific scheduling needs?

Yes, if you give us enough notice of your requirements. We have to balance your requirement with those of some of our other clients who may have us on multi sites around the UK perhaps 10-12 days in any given month. Every month is different but we will always do our best. Once the dates are confirmed we guarantee we will be there.

Can you cover multiple sites in one day?

Yes we can, the only restriction is geographical distance between the sites and how quickly we can gain site access and start shooting once we arrive.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We aim to be as flexible as possible whilst still being able to make a living. We have on occasion been rescheduled because of bad weather- too windy for Cranes to operate etc and we accept that.

Do you offer any package deals or discounts for long-term projects?

Yes we do, we have several clients where we are on site for them every month- let us know what your requirements are and we can discuss it to come to a suitable arrangement.

How does pricing work for your construction photography services?

A good question. We have a daily rate of £600 per day. ( 2 days work for us in reality) If we are on site for one day taking images, we require a further one day to edit them to be at a standard we are happy with. Our daily rate includes the photography and the editing. We are happy to cover multi sites where possible. If there is a lot of distance to cover then we may charge travel time. Any accommodation/ ULEZ required would be charged at whatever we paid for it. As a client we will always discuss everything and agree everything with you first. There will be no costs that come as surprises, we do not operate like that. Useage rights can be discussed and agreed prior to shoot .

We require company headshots, can you do those too?

Yes we can. A very common request is : can we visit multiple sites, take action photos of staff operating machinery etc, capture the current stage of development of multiple projects and visit HQ and site offices to take Headshots/ Staff portraits and images off office staff at their posts. Yes, we can do all of those things.depending on the size of your organisation this could take a day or a week. The biggest challenge seems to be : getting all your staff together in the right place/ at the right time/ on the right job and gaining site access when you need it. We can be flexible and work around your needs.

Why should we use you instead of someone else?

Good question! We have our own, current and up to date CSCS card/ own Full PPE in Orange and Yellow.

After reading all of the above and seeing the images on this page I’m sure you’ve drawn your own conclusions as to whether we could do the job for you and whether not we are the right fit. We do this job because we love it, that’s what gets us out of bed before the birds start chirping. We are totally professional about our commitment to our work- your projects -and we are easy to get along with. Don’t just take our word for it though, have a look at some of the reviews on our reviews page.

Ok, how does it all work then?

We get asked this question a lot! Basically , we will chat to discuss your requirements , if you have multiple sites we can discuss the best order to visit them in- access dependent. We will agree to a a process in writing . We will ask for an on site contact if you still have staff on site- for best access/ help with any induction info etc and then take the images you need before moving to the next site. If you have a staff member on site then if you provide us with their name and number, we can liaise with them you’re too pressed for time.

Or you may prefer to do this yourself, either way is ok with us. If you no longer have a staff member on site, then liaise with either your main/ sub contractor and give us their details to liaise with. We prefer to have their number to be able to remind them the day before of our visit. Things tend to go smoother that way.

Once we have covered all of the sites and taken all of the images, we will then edit the images so they are at their best. We will send you a link to those completed images via WeTransfer for you to download. Once you have downloaded the images and you are satisfied we will invoice you for the work.

Client Reviews

“James at UK Construction photography was incredibly easy to deal with. James accommodated everything we asked for and once we gave him a brief idea of what sort of photos we were after we put him in contact with our web designers and he got the job done without any issues.

After speaking to another photographer, they didn’t seem too keen to undertake the work required as they were put off by the distances involved. We got in contact with James who was more than happy to help us out and fitted our work in at the earliest opportunity.

UK construction photography are perfect for construction companies who require professional photos and, in our case, companies who often find themselves stretched between different sites and locations throughout the UK.

We were very satisfied with James’ work, as were our web designers.”

“Brilliant photographer

Promised the world but delivered the universe
James is our go to guy for all our work
Can’t recommend enough

“James at UK Construction Photography provided a great service and delivered exactly what was required for our new website and case studies. Would highly recommend.”

“We recently commissioned uk construction photography to take images of our trucks delivering glass to a project we are supplying at Silverstone.

We are absolutely thrilled with the images James and his team have captured, they not only met our brief, they surpassed it.

We would be delighted to recommend James and UK Construction Photography.”
