Steel Projects Photographer Captures the Majesty of King’s Cross Western Concourse
As a structural steel photographer specialising in capturing the essence of construction projects, I recently had the privilege of revisiting a truly remarkable feat of engineering – the Western Concourse at King’s Cross Station in London. This wasn’t my first encounter with this architectural marvel, but it was the first time I returned with the express purpose of documenting it for one of my clients.
Capturing the Intricacy: A Steelwork Photographer’s Focus
This intricate interplay of glass, steel, and aluminium is both structurally impressive and visually stunning, creating a light-filled and contemporary space within the Grade I-listed building. As a commercial photographer specialising in steel projects, I knew I had to capture the intricate details and sheer scale of this architectural marvel.
Structural Steel Takes Center Stage: A Photographer’s Perspective
This multi-phase overhaul, valued at a staggering £547 million ($886 million), breathed new life into the historic 160-year-old King’s Cross terminus. But it’s the awe-inspiring steelwork that truly steals the show. Towering 20 metres (66 feet) at its highest point, the Western Concourse boasts a captivating shell-like diagrid roof. This intricate interplay of glass, steel, and aluminium is both structurally impressive and visually stunning, creating a light-filled and contemporary space within the Grade I-listed building.
A Collaborative Feat: Highlighting the Steel Fabricators and Erectors
This project is a shining example of collaborative excellence. The intricate design demanded exceptional precision in crafting the steel components. My client, a leading steel fabrication company, rose to the challenge with their expertise. Their work is a testament to the vital role steel fabricators play in bringing such architectural visions to life.

Working with/ booking a Commercial Photographer for your projects- how does it work?
Following a call from a client, I will call them to get an understanding of the project/s. I will send my clients a Pre-Shoot Questionnaire that highlights some basic information that is helpful to me delivering the best results for you, my client. The questionnaire asks questions such as: Is it an ongoing/ live project or historic? What colour PPE required if it’s a live project, who will be my on site contact etc.
It is possible to visit multi sites in one day if their location and speed of site access is straightforward. If I require an induction on every site this will limit the time available. I have many 5 star reviews on Google, why not check them out?
