Structural Steel Design Awards 2021 Shortlist.
We are proud to have been commissioned to photograph 3 of the buildings on the list!
We discovered this exciting news on opening the July/ August edition on New Steel Construction magazine. Quoting New Steel Construction Magazine “a total of 20 diverse projects from around the UK that highlight steelwork’s numerous attributes have made it into the shortlist for the 2021 Structural Steel Design Awards, which are jointly sponsored by The British Constructional Steelwork Association and Trimble Solutions UK Ltd.:
Structural Steelwork Design Awards- our 3 projects
The first project we were to be involved in was The Catalyst, Newcastle upon Tyne. This was a pleasure for us at it is a project ‘on our doorstep’ relatively speaking, so it was a joy to watch the progress of this beautiful building from start to finish.
The Catalyst, Newcastle.
Glasgow Queen St., Station.
Our second project which we were involved in relatively early is Queen Street Railway Station in Glasgow, which was recently named Britain’s favourite station after winning the World Cup of Stations 2020.
And what a beautiful station it is. Unless you have witnessed the amazing work the main and subcontractors perform, under sometimes appealing weather conditions, you couldn’t imagine the challenges involved for all concerned.
Working over live lines, in the early hours of the morning with a gale blowing and chucking it down with rain. Fortunately we only had to be able to take high quality construction photographs and video. The construction workers do an incredible job, regardless of the weather, day after day, night after night. The station really is a wonderful sight to the eye, with inside and out.
Thanks to J&D Pierce Contracts Ltd we were able to photograph the progress of the build ( during all weathers).
Below is a small selection of images showing construction progress.
Brentford FC Football Stadium
Another massive and exciting construction project to cover. We made several visits to Brentford Football Stadium during its construction process and we were there to cover the Golden Bolt Handover too.
A sample of our Brentford Football Stadium Construction Photographs are shown below.
Referring back to New Structural Steel Magazine, David Moore illustrates the benefits of using steel in today’s construction industry, “Structural steelwork is the original sustainable material with the ability to be recycled and re-used time and time again to deliver structures that meet the low carbon demands of clients and the climate emergency. It is also able to deliver efficient, practical, and flexible spaces that are both beautiful and cost-effective. 2020/21 has been a challenging year with covid-19, Brexit and supply issues but even with these trials the constructional steelwork sector has remained buoyant and continues to provide high-quality buildings and infrastructure for demanding clients.”
We feel extremely proud to have played a small part in the coverage of the construction of some truly magnificent buildings. There is so much great work going on and we feel lucky to be able to work in such a challenging and interesting industry. We will leave the last words to Richard Fletcher, regional business director of Trimble Buildings:
The ability of the industry to continue to deliver projects of this quality in an ever-changing world, leveraging technology for design for manufacture and assembly, is truly inspirational. Good luck to all those shortlisted.”
